mini + moon

For some reason, I always thought I would have a girl first. I think many women do. Maybe it’s because we play with dolls when we’re little. Maybe it’s because it’s what we know. But despite having an inkling that I was pregnant with a boy, I was still surprised when we found out at our 20 week ultrasound that our first bundle of joy would be bundled in blue. “A boy! What do I do with a boy?!” I remember thinking. Shortly followed by, “How do you dress a boy?!” The second sentiment was echoed many times over as we shared our news. “It’s not as fun to dress a boy,” I heard time and again.

But then I started shopping around and hold up a minute! Dressing a boy is every bit as fun as dressing a girl! There are oodles of options out there if you know where to look and as it happens, I know an awesome place to look: Mini + Moon.

If you follow me on instagram or we’re friends on Facebook, you’ve definitely seen me sing the praises of Mini + Moon. That’s because the talented Mama behind the clothes is my dear friend Jennifer – she’s creative, talented, hilarious and keeps it real. All these traits blend together into a killer sense of style which she uses to design and hand sew her clothing line.

Aside from loving her style (think bold patterns (unicorns, lemons, tacos, oh my!) paired with comfort for happy kid wear-ability (is that even a word?), I love her ethos. She says things like you will never see me label anything here as being boy or girl. Kids should be kids, and wear what makes them happy and comfortable. And this: [Shopping Mini + Moon] means less time spent trying to find clothes, and more time spent learning and exploring. For your minis, may their adventures take them to the woods, the ocean, the mountains, and maybe even to the moon.

To the moon! So good!

Know what’s even better?! I get to take pictures of her awesome clothes in return for… clothes!! So Izzy has been rocking some super stylish rompers and now Simon has a handmade hoodie that makes me swoon. He also has an amazing pair of dungarees that make me melt into a pile of squishy mama melty-ness but alas, he refuses to wear them (Isn’t two a little young for such opinions!? Looks like they’ll be Izzy’s dunagrees before too long!).

Last weekend we got together to take some photos of our boys sporting the latest Mini + Moon creations. The fox fabric was hand painted by Prairie Love Knits and it’s perfect for our active, on-the-go kids. Especially for Simon, who has skinny, fast fox-like legs! I don’t recommend bringing a one and two year old downtown and expecting them to sit still and pay attention for a photo shoot. But I do recommend checking out Mini + Moon and ordering something locally handmade for the stylish minis in your life.
